Assorted Chocolates

February has always been one of my favorite months. It might be the shortest month of the year but it is packed with holidays and birthdays, beginning with Groundhog Day on February 2nd. For those who didn't get the news, last week the titular groundhog saw his shadow and six more weeks of winter was forecasted! I don’t mind the cool chilly air because it always feels so clean and fresh.

Many of my childhood heroes were born in February: Susan B Anthony, Thomas Edison, Charles Dickens, and Charles Darwin. This particular February is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and this year is the 150th anniversary of the publication of his seminal work, On the Origin of Species. I was reading an article in a magazine the other day that talked about how Darwin’s ideas still affect our world. A quote from Darwin, cited by one expert, seemed to fit with today’s business climate. "It’s not the strongest of that species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It’s the one that is most adaptable to change."

We at Evergreen Events certainly know about change. For one reason or another we have changed our conference name two years in a row. It doesn't seem to matter what we are called, however, because people see the value and benefits of LOGIN. They know that each year we are willing to change for the better, constantly pushing to improve so that our attendees, sponsors and speakers get the most out of the LOGIN experience.

LOGIN Registration OpensFor some living in Seattle, this time of year can be tough; gray and overcast skies mixed with freezing temperatures and snow can make it difficult to see ahead to Spring. When the rain is falling and the windshield wipers are set on high it is easy to be near sighted. I can promise you that at Evergreen Events we have been looking into the distance and moving forward. The LOGIN conference advisers have been working overtime and they have been focused on planning content that will bring you to Seattle when the sun comes out this May!

As a child in February I always looked forward to decorating the box to hold the Valentine's Day cards. I loved all the silly cards, but most of all I really loved decorating the box! While I no longer spend the early part of February decorating a box for classmates to stuff with silly Valentine's I still enjoyed sharing the love. This February I asked Alaska Airlines to give our attendees discounts on airfare, and I am happy to say that they will be offering a 10% discounts on Alaska and Horizon airlines for travel to our event from May 7 to May 17, 2009. February is also the month that we approve and start announcing our speakers, and in a way, sending out the acceptance letters is a lot like putting Valentine's Day cards in those decorated boxes.

I don't understand why Cupid was chosen to represent Valentine's Day.  When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.

EVE Online Linux Client No Longer Supported by CCP

Linux users will have one less MMO game to play natively on their native operating system. When CCP enabled Linux and Mac support in 2007, apparently interest in the Mac client has grown while Linux support never caught on. Probably easing the loss to Linux users is the fact that the superior Windows EVE Online game client is playable using software emulation. »
