Still Time to Save on LOGIN Registration
Save $500 by registering online

Time is running outYou may have missed the early-bird registration rate that ended in March, but there's still time to demonstrate to all your colleagues how smart and thrifty you are. The LOGIN Conference is still one of the best deals of the year, and by registering online now, you can save $500 of the onsite registration price.

Plus - the deal just got a whole lot better. To make it even easier to attend, the Seattle Marriott Waterfront Hotel is extending a lower rate for LOGIN attendees: $209/night (down from $249/night). This is a fantastic rate for first-class accommodations, and staying at the official hotel puts you squarely in the middle of the action.

Just what does attendance get you at the LOGIN Conference?

  • First-class content. You'll have access to over sixty lectures, panels, debates, and roundtables over three days, covering topics important to the breadth of the online game development world, including business, legal, production, new technologies, virtual worlds, social networking, community, and much more, delivered by some of the industry's most influential and knowledgeable speakers.

  • Networking opportunities galore. Whether at the classy LOGIN welcome reception, the official conference party, the LOGIN Nexus business lounge, or one of the speed-networking breakfasts, you'll have more opportunities to rub elbows with some of the online game industry’s most powerful movers and shakers than any other event. Since LOGIN is smaller and more exclusive than other events, you can have the time you need to get to know just the right people without being lost in the mob.

  • Incredible amenities. Ask anyone who attended last year: The sit-down lunches, gourmet snacks, and fine wine are just a part of what made LOGIN one of the most memorable and superior game industry experiences in 2008. Everything at LOGIN is step beyond what you've experienced elsewhere.

One pass covers just about everything at the LOGIN Conference. No separate expo passes. No tutorial passes. No multi-tier pass system, where you're left wondering what you're missing. Just one pass that gives you the access of a VIP among other dignitaries at one of the game industry’s premiere conferences. If you’re ready to register for LOGIN, get started here:

Register Now

Once you've registered for LOGIN, we definitely recommend booking your stay at the official conference hotel, the Seattle Marriott Waterfront Hotel. When Online Game Portals Collide: Interview with Atlus Online's Kevin Crawford

Kevin Crawford, Project Manager for Atlus Online, covers the Wild, Wild West world of online game portals. What is their potential? What are their pitfalls? That and more is addressed in this interview which previews his role on the “Online Gaming Portals: Positive Explosion or Impending Doom?” panel at the 2009 LOGIN Conference.

Paul PhileoPAUL PHILLEO: Thank you, Kevin, for taking some time out of your schedule to answer a few questions about yourself, your work and, of course, your LOGIN Conference panel you’ll be participating on. Start off by telling us about Atlus Online and your role with this company.

Kevin CrawfordKEVIN CRAWFORD: Thanks for having me! Atlus Online is an interactive entertainment portal that will bring all sorts of exciting digital content, including anime, manga, and games, to a centralized hub for our members. Using a simple single sign-on system, our members will have one login to maintain, and through that one login they will have access to all current and future content that Atlus Online hosts.

My title here at Atlus Online is Online Project Manager. I am responsible for overseeing all aspects of developing the Atlus Online portal, as well as managing key development relationships and coordinating proper integration between Atlus USA's online and console divisions. I also work closely with our game operations team to make sure that we are providing top-notch customer service to our members.

Considering the large numbers of free-to-play online game portals in active service, what motivated the creation of Atlus Online, which is also a portal?

The creation of Atlus Online has been an aspiration of our CEO, Shinichi Suzuki, for awhile now. With the economy the way it is, people are looking for low-risk entertainment. Free-to-play games and unique digital content is just what the doctor ordered. While someone may be reluctant to drop $59 on a console title, a free, digitally distributed title with a promise of no commitment necessary is a beacon of light. We put the purchasing power back in the consumer’s hands. Our portal will also host many social networking features that will make Atlus Online a daily destination for fun on the Internet for our members.

In general, what are the upsides and downsides in launching an MMOG portal, from the business perspective?

The most obvious upside is that you will be showcasing all of your content in one centralized area, which means the visibility that you crave is there. Also, if you utilize a single sign-on portal, database maintenance can be easier (depending on how you set it up) as you will only be maintaining one login for each member for all of your content. If you are also tying in a single purchasable currency that can be utilized across all of your titles, you’re golden.

Two of the downsides are production time and the initial cost. If you are creating a portal in-house from scratch, get ready to drop some big bucks on hardware, development and quality assurance. Portals can be unwieldy beasts, and there are many pitfalls that companies can experience that take completion time from a few months to sometimes more than a year… ouch.

Gazillion's Marvel Universe MMO Not Set for Release Until 2012

Marvel's theatrical schedule certainly suggests that when people think "super hero movies", they think "Marvel". Iron Man 2 is slated for 2010, Spider-Man 4 for 2011, with Captain America and The Avengers following thereafter. After saturating theatres with the brand, then the MMO game will be released. Currently, the game is showing signs of its earliness since the iconic super heroes who will be included as part of the game have not yet been selected as of yet. »

Stargate Worlds Producer Hints at Stargate World's Possible Failure to Launch

Executive Producer Brad Wright of both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis was recently interviews on the Stargate fansite, Gateworld, intoning his regret about the fate he anticipates for Stargate Worlds and its fans. '"It's a shame. If it doesn't happen - and, let's be honest, it should be happening now if it was happening," he said. "It's a shame. It's a terrible shame ... They had an opportunity and they got our support, and they obviously had significant funding, and it didn't happen," he continued. "It's kind of a drag for the fans and the time that we invested - what little of it there really was, in comparison to what they did - was still a shame that it was wasted, because it should have happened."' Stargate Worlds has been in development since late 2005 by Cheyenne Mountain, and has reportedly experienced a series of setbacks, including repeated delays, failure to pay employees and a recent lawsuit to address unpaid hosting bills by an Arizona data center. »

Interplay and Masthead Team Up for Mysterious V13 MMOG Project

Masthead will bring its tools, resources and team to the game development partnership. Apparently, this deal was hastened by Interplay's need to secure $30 million in funding by April 4th, or lose control of the project and the IP. »

AT&T hurrying massive network update for new iPhone launch

AT&T is rushing to rollout a major upgrade to its 3G mobile data service in anticipation of a tenfold increase in network traffic from new iPhone hardware expected to go on sale in June, according to a vendor source. Apple's exclusive mobile service provider in the US has already laid out plans to upgrade its 3G data network on multiple fronts. Last month AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega said in an interview that "we have the infrastructure capability to go to 7.2 [Mbit/s], and we'll have the capability to go 14.4 and 20 in the next couple of years, so I think there's coverage we're going to improve, there's quality we're going to improve, and there's speed that's also going to get improved." »
